Walk Like a Pilgrim

I received this in my in box today and it is timely for all of us who struggle in our faith, finding this Christian life a tough act.

I confess that there have been days in my life where I have harboured the thought that following Jesus is just too hard – why not just take it easy and enjoy life ”normally” like the majority around me. It is exactly when these thoughts come that I remember I gave up my life at the Cross and that  God chose me for His everlasting purpose.

Like Keith Green sang, “I want to be a pleasing child until that final day.”

So get out that rusty Sword of the Spirit, put on your helmet of salvation – the whole armour of God and get back into the battle.

Keep going; the end is in sight!

Breaking News – Major earthquake strikes south-east Iran

This morning I spoke with Bill about how I am hearing more and more people sharing dreams about the Ark. Around two years ago I had a vivid dream of Noah’s Ark and heard the urgent cry to “Get in! Get in!”

Within six months I had another dream where I was looking for room in the Ark for my family and I had to go to the very top level (12th floor) as the rest of the Ark was full and there was no room below.  The 12th floor signifies the 12th hour. It is not so much about signalling the end of the world but the end of the world as we know it.

The Ark is Jesus Christ. He is the Light of the world, the Saviour of the whole earth. I said to Bill it is all about repenting of sins and being clean so that we can hear Him when He speaks to us.

You know, it is quickly becoming obvious that Christians are pests, fundamental and unbending, believing in that dusty ol’ book, the Bible and professing Jesus as the only way to God.

Bill and I have been in countries that were under attack or under threat (think 9/11, collapse of Soeharto, race riots and Mumbai terrorist attacks). As I walked down the hallway yesterday I  heard a quiet small voice say something about the next time it will be something BIG.

We are living  in India, in a 14th floor apartment and today my building swayed and I swayed and swaggered with it while the water in the pool below rippled under the impact of Iran’s earthquake.

I remained remarkably calm, so much so that I didn’t contact Bill and forgot about it as quickly as it had happened.

Why?

I am prepared.

This morning my devotional reading came from John 12:35 and 36.

“‘Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walks in darkness knows not where he is going.

While you have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.”

Are you ready for eternity?

I Guess the Lord Must Be in Gurgaon City

Apologies to Harry Nielsson and New York City but I love it when the Lord goes before me and sets up nice surprises.
We have been in India a week now and I cover that in my article below. Today though is my first chance to go to church and corporately worship my hero, Jesus.

The church meets in the basement of a local hotel with about 25 present: apart from some locals there were people from Kenya, Phillipines, USA and the guest speaker was an Australian. Sitting directly in front of me was this sweet little girl wearing a skirt that Chloe and Millie have often worn.

Hello I’m Chloe and I am 6. I come from Australia

The worship was so sweet with some of my favourite songs playing and my tears of gratitude came easily.
After the service, while introducing ourselves I met the little girl wearing the familiar skirt.
Hello, she said, I’m from Australia, my name is Chloe and I am 6.
I let out a big smile and told her about my grandchildren back home. She gave me a big hug and told me how excited she had been to see her grandparents last month. Apparently Chloe has been in India for four months, her Dad was today’s guest speaker and tonight they fly back home.
The week before I left Australia, Bill said to me how he didn’t know too many women who would just get up and leave their grandchildren, their house and garden to make a new life in India.
Jesus has prepared me for this over many many years and in recent weeks through my morning devotions, He has clearly told me to not let sentimentality get in the way of what He has for me.

This blog is all about preparing for eternity and today’s message in church was about how eternity is the main event not this short life we now pass through.
This life prepares us for eternity and we have to overcome great obstacles in the natural. We have to place all our trust in God.
We have to follow Jesus and say,as He said, ‘Not my will but Your will be done.’ It helps to remember that we have been born again and our old selves have died and now we live in Christ. Dead people have no rights. Remind yourself often, ‘My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.’ (Gal 2:20)
Following Jesus is not easy but it is an exceptional life experience.
